Messy Fun

Our preschool has a summer bridge program that runs for the 3 weeks between when our school ended and last day of the local public school.  This week I am running the camp with 2 other teachers.  Our week is called "My Mom would never let me do this at home - Messy Fun."  This week we have 24 kids who are between the ages of 3-5.  Today we had lots of messy fun. We put paper on the fence and just let the kids paint if they wanted to.

We also had a table covered with shaving cream and spoons, spatulas and other "tools" the kids could use to play in the shaving cream. Most of the kids really enjoyed stopping by this table.

Because it started to rain, we went inside for snack and to make 3-D ice cream cones.  First the children mixed white glue and shaving cream (equal proportions)with a popsicle stick in a little plastic cup.  They then chose what color ice cream they would make and we added liquid water colors.
They then used their hands or the stick to spread the "puffy paint" (on card stock) to make their ice cream on top of their paper cone.
I have seen this idea on several sites including The Little Running Teacher.
The final cones are really cute!

One last thing we had were water beads.  I was glad I had these because they really appealed to the kids who were a little reluctant with the messy shaving cream.
